Dave Kenny, our committee and volunteers are very busy working at the pub at the moment so this update has once again fallen to me, Steve, to provide you with news about what’s happening at our blossoming local.
Firstly, I am very happy to announce that Graham Pearson (pictured above with Dave) has been appointed as Manager of the Railway Arms and is indeed working behind the bar now as I write. Graham has over thirty years experience in the pub trade including previously managing London’s first cooperative pub The Ivy House near Peckham as well working for Shepherd Neame. I’m sure you’ll join me in wishing Graham every success in taking our pub to the next level and I hope you will make him feel very welcome.
As you know, up to now the pub has been opening just Friday to Sunday each week and with the Government’s Covid restrictions we have been limited to opening outside only. As of 17th May, we are permitted to open indoors and it is our intention to open the pub to indoor guests from Friday 21st May and from then onwards the pub will be fully open, seven days a week. Final preparations, decorations and plans are still in progress and we will update you further with opening times next week as soon as they have been agreed, please note that table service will still be compulsory as well as the wearing of face masks when not seated and the need to track and trace.
One of Graham’s first tasks at the pub is to recruit staff. We are still very keen to recruit bar/waiting staff but in particular we are looking for a cook. If you are interested in applying then please email us here
I know some of you have found it already, but our website is now up and running. The site features our menu and also has a booking system for reserving tables at the pub. Please take a look at www.railwayarms.co.uk when you have the chance, we are also now on Trip Advisor and would welcome your comments there. The pub will shortly have its own newsletter which will provide details of news and events that are happening.
Lastly I’d like to thank you all for visiting the pub in our opening month and especially to those who have given up their time to volunteer. Without volunteer help we would not be where we are right now and we are extremely indebted to you. I know that we in the committee have also been overwhelmed with the 5 star reviews and kind comments that we’ve seen on Google – they have been extremely humbling and are spurring us on to greater heights
